چکیده
Method In case 1, three months after hospital discharge, a small fistula in the upper sternal scar was observed. When it was explored surgically, the fistula affected the superiorposterior part of the sternum and the pericardium was covering the prosthesis except in a small area over the left distal anastomosis of the dacron graft, which had a drop of pus. Cases 2 and 3 presented clear mediastinitis, with fever, leucocytosis and purulent effusion around the conduit, at 7 and 10 days after Bentall procedure. In case 1 s. Epidermidis was isolated and in cases 2 and 3 enterococci were cultured.

Successful surgical in situ treatment of prosthetic graft infection by staged procedure after Bentall operation and total aortic arch replacement
We report a case of a 29-year-old Marfan patient who developed prosthetic graft infection 10 months after Bentall operation and successive replacement of the remaining ascending aorta and the entire aortic arch for acute aortic dissection. Instead of an aggressive high-risk aortic redo procedure with removal and replacement of the infected prosthetic graft we elected a staged graft-sparing surg...

This retrospective analysis of a selected series of Bentall-De Bono procedures was carried out in order to evaluate the performance of the Carboseal composite valve graft (Sulzer Carbomedics Inc, Austin, TX, USA). Between October 1997 and April 2004, 120 patients underwent aortic root replacement with the Carboseal Composite Valve Graft. The mean age of patients was 59.7+/-13.4 years (range, 21...
متن کاملA case of acute heart failure due to giant aortic pseudoaneurysm with fistulization to the right ventricle after a modified Bentall operation.
Simultaneous en bloc replacement of the ascending aorta and aortic valve by a composite valve graft, as first described by Bentall and De Bono in 1968 and with later modifications, has become the standard surgical technique in the treatment of aneurysms of the aortic root associated with severe aortic valve dysfunction. Despite the good surgical results overall, it is still associated with cons...
متن کاملAortic Valve Sparing Operation
A standard approach in the surgical treatment of severe aortic regurgitation and/or aortic root dilatation is Bentall procedure, it means replacement of the aortic valve and ascending aorta with a composite graft including mechanical or biological valve. The original technique described by Bentall and De Bono in 1968 (5). This is a „safe“ method with low mortality, but patients have to accept t...
متن کاملConstrictive pericarditis associated with an ascending aortic aneurysm and aortic valve insufficiency
We report the case of a 54-year-old patient who was admitted to our institution for planned surgical treatment of an ascending aortic aneurysm and aortic valve insufficiency. A decision was made to perform an elective Bentall-de Bono procedure. Constrictive pericarditis was revealed intraoperatively. The Bentall-de Bono procedure and the resection of calcified pericardium were performed success...
